The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has reviewed the County Metro Homicide Unit’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the June 19, 2010, death of Anthony Echols.  Based upon a review of the physical evidence and witness statements, the Prosecutor’s Office has determined that, while this was a homicide, it was justifiable as Lisa Beattie acted in self-defense when she shot and killed Anthony Echols.  Therefore, no charges will be filed against Ms. Beattie or the witness who was also present in the home during the incident.
